MUN Canadian Global Surgery Trainees’ Association (CGSTA)

last recognized: Winter 2022

The Canadian Global Surgery Trainees' Alliance is a national global surgery organization in Canada, affiliated with the International Student Surgical Network - InciSioN.

We are a chapter of the national organization, and a group of MUN Medical Students working to provide educational and networking opportunities for students interested in global surgery.

In addition to advocating for equitable access to surgical care in northern, rural and remote communities and developing countries.

This group involves undergraduate students at MUN in that undergraduates lead the group and organize the activities the group plans throughout the year. This group impacts undergraduate students at MUN in that it educates on surgical care in northern, rural and remote communities across Canada, and in developing countries. This group also provides many opportunities to network with other undergraduate students, residents and physicians across Canada.

We differ from other groups in that we are affiliated with the International Student Surgical Network - InciSioN, we advocate for equitable access to surgical care in northern, rural and remote communities of Canada and developing countries. We also do not focus on a specific surgical field, but chose to educate on and advocate for equitable surgical care in all surgical fields. We are similar to other groups in that our group educates students while also taking part in advocating initiatives.
